Ranger Mick Retires

E-mail Print

mick day compilation

After nearly 30 years, Park Ranger Mike Day left Allestree Park on 28th December, 2011.. He has taken voluntary retirement during a severe cut back by the City Council to the ranger service across all of Derby Parks. This involves there being no resident rangers  in each of the Parks, including Allestree. A few years ago Mick was accompanied in the Park by two more rangers. Recentlly he has been the only one.

Mick, with his great knowledge and enthusiasm, has been a great asset to our park and he will be greatly missed.

However, Mick won't lose his connection with it, as he has promised to take part in conservation projects organised by the Friends. No doubt he will also carry on taking evocative photographs of the landscapes of Allestree Park (see the collection of his pictures on this website).

Mick has left a message with us to convey to all the many users of the Park who knew him:

I have been very touched by the way that the friends group and the park users  have responded to my exit from the council.I would like you to express my sincere thanks to everyone for their support over the years .The park shall always be close to my heart and I will continue to work with all of you to improve the environment within it.

Mick,

In return, if anyone would like to send me messages of good wishes to Mick for inclusion on this website, then please send them to me

Bill Grange
